Thank you for connecting, Ellen. I met you once at the diner, read your books, feel a kinship with you. I am a writer who has ceased writing. Maybe you will inspire. I’m glad found your posts.
We do miss our twice a year two week, not really vacations because it seemed like all we did was work and repair things, at what then was known as Haven! So you know , you and Rick were highlights of those visits, even though we didn’t know you well, we felt at home in the diner. I personally kind of envied your lifestyle. However here we are in Georgia , creeping up on our 80’s but surrounded by kids, grandkids and great grandkids. No complaints.
Do you have birds? We don't have any. Ken put food out three days ago and no takers. So we just went for a walk down the road to see who's hogging all our birds, and heard lots of them inbthe brushy areas next to the empty corn fields. I hoped to get a glimpse of blue bird, but didn't but i know its too early even though we have no snow and its 42 degrees. And cloudy and sad outside. Walked home thinking about Daddy and how I still reach for my phone when I see that first bluebird of the year. And how Mama and Daddy both loved the fireplace table at the Diner. Once home, here's an email from your substack! What a nice treat, thank you!
I kept coming up with that word too, and it’s close, but it’s not quite the one I’m fishing for… The one I want is right on the tip of my tongue/brain/whatever.

Hi Ellen!
“One of the many reasons I love winter: in winter, you can doze and sleep long hours and feel less slothful for it.)”
I feel this way too and am thankful that you verbalized it.

Much love to you! We have many jays and some chickadees, and often a cardinal pair, unusual up here. Xoxo
